Watch the Spring in All Its Plumage

When I wrote about The Lexi Project last year, which was a collaborative fundraising effort for Lexi Zelin of AngelRED Couture, I marveled with awe and delight over the number of designers and residents to who came together to offer emotional and financial support to one of our own. And this year, it’s the lovely and wonderful Cajsa Lilliehook who was inspired to start a Blogger Challenge in honor of Bubbles Clawtooth, the designer behind beloved hair brand Clawtooth in Second Life.

Bubbles’ mother has Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS / Lou Gehrig’s Disease), a heartbreaking neurological condition that attacks the nerve cells, weakening muscles and voluntary physical functions. (My grandfather had ALS when my mom was a teenager; from hearing her personal experiences with this condition, my heart truly goes out to Bubbles and his family.) Bubbles has been dedicating many tireless hours to his mother’s care, so to honor and pay tribute to him, Cajsa called upon Second Life’s blogging community to visit Clawtooth and purchase hairstyles to feature in our blogs to help bolster Bubbles’ spirit and to give his brand some very well-deserved recognition. Answering the call straight away was Strawberry Singh, who helped to broaden the audience for Cajsa’s challenge, and after delightedly spending time trying on a wealth of Clawtooth hairstyle demos yesterday (there are truly so many gorgeous styles), I’m honored to make a heartfelt contribution post of my own.

My post title and picture are inspired by the song “You’re Beautiful” by Mojave 3, and it has a special meaning not only for the caring and wistful lyrics, but also because I first heard it on a mix CD (oh gosh, remember those?) made for me by the dear friend who first introduced me to Second Life, and who went on to be a long-time content creator himself. Things always seem to come full-circle in our virtual world, and with a the support of friends, fellow designers, and customers surrounding him, it’s Cajsa’s hope that we can lift Bubbles’ spirit with our gestures of care and solidarity.

So whether you’re a blogger or Flickr photographer, or you’re simply a kindhearted soul who enjoys residing in the virtual world, please do visit Clawtooth and try on some gorgeous hairstyles. The delightfully-dreamy Ippos sim sets the stage for my look today, and I’m really adoring the Nour v2 skin by WoW Skins (a new-to-me designer) from the Mesh Body Addicts Fair, as well as the beautiful Chloe Eyeshadow by Alaska Metro for the Apply Me event. Creating glittery eye makeup must be no easy feat; I’d imagine it’s tricky getting the ideal texturing for that perfectly sparkly, foiled look, and like all her cosmetics, Alaska does the job beautifully!

My gorgeous tattoo is by Reckless (its matching leg tattoo may be found as a free group gift in-store), and I’m tremendously impressed with the quality of Landon Mode’s designs. And speaking of quality, Phoenix offers the beautifully-textured, softly-windswept Alana hair as their Mix Event item of the month, and I’m delighted at how perfectly it went with my look today. Really lovely style! As with all items from Mix, the Alana hair may be found in the Phoenix mainstore; I’m linking to the event website if you’re interested in checking out other participating designers. It’s a great event!

My outfit and armbands may both be found at this month’s round of We Love Roleplay, and they’re truly not to be missed! The Dragon Armbands by Azuchi are materials-enabled so they positively shine with your windlights, and are beautifully detailed and exquisitely made. The Becca Corsage & Skirt by Salt & Pepper offers you options in the HUD to change the leaf, flower and pearl colors, and they come in four lovely, earthy colors.

And of course, no dragon-charming warrior princess would be found without some impressive footwear, and the Olympus Boots by KC Couture are true perfection. As always with KC shoes, you can change everything from the main color, heel, sole, and even the metal details from within the HUD, and they offer lots of fits for your mesh bodies and bits. Body Gold

It’s the end of another beautiful week, and we’re right on the cusp of August, hooray! This is traditionally my favorite summertime month since moving to the desert, as we have some terrifically fearsome monsoons in August, and as a longtime thunderstorm lover, it’s often my only chance to experience a good rainstorm all year long. I certainly wouldn’t hope to be caught in the rain in the dress I’m wearing today though! ;)

In my First Life, I rarely wear white as I’m so fair skinned, it just washes me out and gives me a bit of a ghostly pallor. But paired with a lusciously tanned skin in Second Life, I’m in love with its simplicity and the way it perfectly sets off my gold and neutral accessories. Salt & Pepper creates beautiful accessories and clothing, and I’m so captivated by their items from the Jungle Set at this month’s round of The Epiphany! I’m wearing the Jungle headpiece and ring in gold, which both lend a perfect touch of bohemian glam to any outfit. I’m also wearing the lovely Fea Necklace (exclusive to The Fantasy Collective this month), which is elegantly rustic (there’s an interesting combination of words!) and beautifully detailed with perfect gold and neutral tones. My shoes are from my beloved KC Couture, and thanks to the wonderful HUD that comes with the Luxor Heels, I found the perfect combination of a wooden base, bronze straps and gold embellishments.

And that lovely dress which I dare not prance about in the rain in? It’s by Azuchi and is a Shiny Shabby exclusive, available in 3 solid colors (black, red and white) and 3 tropical patterns. It’s another design that’s deceptively simple but beautifully detailed; and best part is that it comes in Maitreya and Slink fitmesh versions, as well as Standard Sizes. It’s also materials enabled, which gives it a beautiful, soft sheen and really brings out all the lovely details. I’m wearing the Maitreya version, and I did opt to alpha out my pelvis because my AO has a lil’ bit of booty-pop going on (entirely unintentional, I assure you!) but I’m thrilled with not having to fiddle with upper body alpha bits, which I always find to be the trickiest. Thank you, Azuchi! ♥

To wrap up, my sincere appreciation to Birdy for the gorgeous Jaime skin (with optional freckles and lip gloss) that’s on offer as their VIP Group gift. I had at first thought that the toffee skintone may be a touch too deep for me (once a pale gal, always a pale gal!) but having no hope of perfectly luscious, tanned skin in my First Life, having it in Second Life is a special thrill. And it’s just so pretty! The group is L$150 to join, and that gets you access to group gift skins, eyeliners, a couple of ridiculously adorable wearable pets, and also gives you access to gifts from the Foxes and Alchemy brands as well. Sincerely recommended!

I’m off to make my final push to visit every last swiftly-ending event.
