The Beat in My Bones

Posted on Updated on

The blog post and picture I shared on Monday have received such an amazingly warm, generous, thoughtful response that I’m truly overwhelmed. To everyone who left me a comment here on my blog or on Flickr, thank you so much for your unbelievable kindness! I can’t thank you enough or find all the right words to say what it has meant to me; I’m incredibly touched and brimming with appreciation and gratitude. So much love for you all!

“‘Lover’, she said
‘you put the beat in my bones,
it’s your light here in my hand,
you make it easy to see it flow’ …”

While I was writing about being a sensualist the other day, I thought about how I would distill it down to a single fascination, and the answer was immediately clear to me: if given only one sensual pleasure in life, even above carnal delights (rawr), my heart would belong to music. And one of the wonderful things about Second Life is that it’s a fascination so many of us share.

Whether waxing poetic about favorite songs with my intriguing friend Alex Monty, rhapsodizing over indie musicians with my beloved soul-sister Chloë-Dakota, or sitting in rapt appreciation as I read Serene Footman’s wonderful posts about Radiohead (a band we both love dearly), I always feel drawn like a moth to a flame to those who share the same musical passions. I’m even in the early stages of cultivating an idea that would marry my interests in both SL and music into an ongoing collaborative project with other souls who beat the same drum. I can’t promise it will ever come to fruition, but even just the lush and lovely thoughts of it have been something worth savoring.

I keep a playlist in Spotify called “Sparks”, and I add songs to it almost daily that have titles or lyrics that catch the tendrils of my mind as inspiration for future blog posts. This is another thing that has thrilled and delighted me: that people are genuinely enjoying (or at least, very kindly tolerating!) my more meandering, rambling style of blogging. I’m a lover of words first, and a photographer second; the bloggers who put together gorgeous looks and pictures daily in ways that seem so easeful and effortless have my endless admiration. I hope I don’t ever do a disservice to the designers I represent or feature on my blog, and I thank them graciously for their patience. I try to get to the goods eventually! :)

The spark for this look was set alight by the amazing Feeling Myself Headphones by Foxes, a gacha item I found on the Marketplace when I was finally thunderstruck with the realization that I could find sought-after gachas there without having to try (and fail) my luck at the machines themselves. I don’t know why I never thought to look there before, but that kind of charms me too: I feel like I learn a new trick, find a new place to explore, or discover an interesting new facet of SL every day! The lingerie is by MoDANNA for AnyBody (an amazing event if you have a budding interest in sensual wear, as I’m cultivating myself) and the lovely necklace is by Yummy for Collabor88.

Paradise Dawning

Posted on Updated on

When the virtual world first beckoned me to begin my Second Life anew last year, I found early on that I was really fascinated with shopping on the SL Marketplace. It felt like an interactive catalog, with a variety of search and sort options, and I really liked that I could load up my cart, chill in a sandbox, and have a lovely bunch of parcels delivered right to me, ready for my unboxing pleasure.

These days, I do still find myself shopping the Marketplace on occasion; I particularly love it for purchasing gacha items, which is largely how I found makeup appliers for my beloved Genesis Lab mesh head. But last year, my friend Kess Crystal inspired me with her wonderful Mainstore Monday series, which found her sharing finds from designers’ mainstore locations, which she hoped would inspire others to broaden their horizons, rather than exclusively exploring the vast array of shopping events.

I loved this concept, but sadly failed to do it proper justice before going on hiatus. So this time around, I decided to make it a point to visit mainstores as often as events, because if I loved something a designer created for Collabor88, Uber, or similar, I was sure to be dazzled by items from their older, non-“event exclusive” collections as well. And I’ve been enjoying it immensely! I’ll never bid farewell to my love for shopping the events; it’s one of my great pleasures in Second Life, and I just eased back into maintaining my SL Fashion & Shopping Events Tracker to boot. But mainstore visits will definitely become a deeper part of my style-creating groove and technique!

However, it’s a bit funny that I wrote all of that to accompany a picture that largely does not contain mainstore releases. Silly Ever! But my look does contain two items that came right from the Marketplace, so it all makes sense in a roundabout way. That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it! ♡

Boat in the Sand

Posted on Updated on

I’ve always been somewhat shy about wearing very petite skirts in Second Life, so when I tried on the demo for Blueberry’s sensational Britain denim skirts and saw that they come with optional (and color-change!) mesh panties, I was immediately charmed and instantly sold. The exceptional designers behind Blueberry really do think of everything!

My top is the beautifully textured Ruhi Layered Blouse by Zaara, available at the current round of Colabor88. There were so many wonderful items to discover at C88, but as I only just returned, I had to sneak in for the final push. If only there were more hours in the day, and more days in the week!

You never quite know what you’ll find when you’re delightedly tripping about the grid’s regions in more-or-less alphabetical order, but when I spied the name 4Play, I had a feeling I might encounter some sauciness! While the sim certainly advertises adult services, it was very quiet when I visited, so I spent a lovely hour or more just enjoying the beachscaping and scenery. Isn’t it pretty? ♡

Sneaking in one final post to celebrate items from the Mesh Body Addicts Fair, which wraps up in the evening of Friday, August 21st. This will be an uber-shorty as you don’t need to read my jibba-jabba when there’s limited time shopping afoot (or whichever mesh body part strikes your fancy!) Please enjoy! ♥

Sail Into the Sun

Posted on Updated on

Now I know what this looks like: I’m clearly not dressed for sailing, and this lil’ ship of mine is a fair distance from the shoreline, but I totally didn’t commandeer it for fashionable photography purposes, honest! Well, not purposefully; it was just floating there so innocently and enticingly off the coast of the Mesh Avenue event – how could I resist? But as you can see, my clone and I have absolutely no clue how to sail, and neither a strapping young sailor nor a randy band of pirates was anywhere to be found. So when all else fails, pose for your life! :)

An easy-breezy, simply chic look for today, thanks to the lovely Jennifer Dress by LEGENDAIRE (available at the FAD Fashion Event), which I’m especially fond of for its deeply-dipping arm and necklines, the lusciously high left-side slit, and the perfect knee-length cut. The HUD offers four unique patterns, and it comes in standard mesh sizing. The angle hides my delicate necklace more than I intended, but it’s well worth visiting the Totally Top Shelf event to see all the lovely items on offer, and if you adore Secret Love‘s jewelry as I do, be sure to stop by the mainstore where Faylinn is offering a 50% off sale on everything through August 20th!

I also want to mention my gorgeous hairstyle by Besom, which may be exclusively found at the current round of Collabor88 through September 4th. This is the must-visit event of the week, with a dazzling number of designers contributing to the 4th anniversary round of this truly wonderful shopping experience (it’s in my Top 5 favorites for sure!) The Alder hairstyle is super versatile: a touch of bombshell mixed with sleek and chic, and that perfect mid-torso length that I love so much. Getting into C88 will be tricky for at least the next few days, but I promise it will be worth it when you get there!
