Gold in the Air of Summer

I read a passage once by an author who said that following a particularly stressful time in her life, she painted the colors of her home in the warmest, cheeriest colors she could find. In that way, it was like being surrounded by happiness and love. Although I’m woefully inept at Second Life decorating, I believe that fashion can be just as uplifting. So after an exhaustively busy week, I sought two things: the serenity of ocean waves, and the warm hug of vibrant, summery colors. And because the virtual world is made of magic, in just a few clicks I’d found both!

I’m flirting with a different set-up for my posts, putting the style details immediately beneath the pictures so those who just want a quick reference for what I’m wearing can find the information easily. And for those kind souls who graciously read my stories and rambles, you’ll just have to do a wee bit of scrolling to get to them. Let me know what you think! I’m always open to ideas for how to improve my blog to both benefit the designers I’m showcasing, as well as to appeal to visitors. Comments are warmly welcomed!

My dress is by db Dollz and is available in five vibrant, colorful flavors at the SL Vogue event. My other wonderful event-exclusives include DS’ELLES gorgeous Yony skin at The Black Dot Project, and the positively juicy and perfectly-named Summer Zest Necklace by Secret Love at the Olala Fashion Event, which ends on Monday. I’m also wearing my favorite Besom hairstyle from this year’s Hair Fair, which is still going in full swing and still very, very packed full of shoppers! I think I’m finally going to make a go of it this weekend and try to get in; wish me luck! And if you’re there as well, don’t be surprised if I’m invisible save my nametag, as I’ll probably be using the full-body alpha trick I mentioned in my previous Hair Fair post. Gotta minimize that lag!

I also want to mention my delightfully summery, event-exclusive pose pack by Kirin, which comes with 14 beach balls (7 each in multi-color and pink varieties), and 7 unique holding poses. The set can be found at The Seasons Story, which has a gorgeous underwater build that must be seen to be believed! Much love to the wonderful Alaska Metro, who recently updated all of her nail packs to support Maitreya nails (/me jumps for joy) while still pricing them at the amazingly low L$25 apiece on the SL Marketplace. And I can’t get enough of the beautifully colorful Dragon Tattoo by Infected. It’s sometimes tricky to find tattoos that are truly sleeves-only without designs that envelope the torso or chest as well, and these are just perfect in my eyes!

Finally, the pose in my top-most pic is by Signature Pose and it’s part of the Shawna pack that features 5 poses specifically designed for kneeling glamorously in the ocean waves. I may be missing the red and white from my look today, but I’ve definitely got the blue covered! This lush, chic dress is by db Dollz and is exclusive to The Showroom event through July 11th. It comes in six colors, and I was head-over-heels for the rich, sapphire blue tone. Blue is my favorite color, and I just don’t wear it often enough in-world, which is an inexcusable crime! The soft ruching is a lovely detail, and I have to adore a dress that can easily be dressed up or down, and is both sexy and chic. All of the rawrs! ♥

My sweet accessory is another event exclusive: the Ribbons & Pearls necklace by Secret Love may be found at the FAD Fashion Event through July 25th. As always with Faylinn’s lovely designs, you have several metal, ribbon and gem colors in the HUD to choose from. My eyes and nails are two free Marketplace finds from TSM and By Snow, and I love the pops of purple to compliment the blues. I’m sure with that, my lavender-loving friend Holly will insist that I’m once again attempting to be an enabler, but my only response to that is: “What do you mean attempting?” /me grins cheekily

I’m using a built-in pose in my 1st pic, and the pose in my 2nd pic is by Signature Pose and is exclusive to the My Slink Obsession event, which kicks off on July 5th. Between all the ongoing and upcoming fashion events, and the weekend and month-long sales, you’ll have the perfect opportunity to offset a frenetic holiday with a heapin’ dose of retail therapy!

Late Bloomer

Lately I’m getting by on only around 4 hours of sleep a night (or morning, as the case may be) so finding a space of solace and serenity in the virtual world is bliss when I’m working on a new photo or post. When I spied the name Chakryn Forest in someone’s profile’s picks (not that I was perving or anything … ahem), it seemed familiar to me, and when I put together this look I thought an enchanted forest would make for a lovely backdrop.

This won’t be a particularly wordy post, because there are some last minute, event-exclusive lovelies that I wanted to share, and I’d much rather you go check them out than be scrolling through my rambles! (Although I truly adore and appreciate that you do!)

RAYNE is offering the chic, sleek Blossom jumpsuit as a free gift to group members, and it may be picked up from the Sneak Peek event, which is also where the beautiful La Boheme outfit resides that I featured on Monday. I found a sweet and apt accompaniment in the Rose Crown by db Dollz, which is a gacha prize from the Ross Fair Event. The crown comes in several sweet colors and combinations, and is beautifully crafted.

I peeked into The Dressing Room Fusion and fell hard for Izzie‘s lovely Arrowhead Necklace, which comes in both gold and silver metals with an versatile range of texture-change hues, and is a steal at just L$70. My favorite part is that it’s literally pointing at my bosoms, as if ensuring that people direct their gaze at my womanly curves. Hey, no complaints here! :)

My soft midnight black polish is from Alaska Metro‘s free tester pack, which offers Maitreya, Slink, Eve and Omega appliers. Her designs are dazzling and wildly affordable, so I highly recommend picking up the tester pack and then thoroughly buying out her entire Marketplace shop! And my ring is gift from a past round of We Love Roleplay by designer Fawny; it’s so pretty with its delicate leaf design. I realized that it was meant for the other hand, but I really wanted to show off the ring with this pose, so I was very appreciative that the ring has copy/mod permissions and I was able to easily create a left-hand version. I so dearly love when creators give us options like this!

Choose Your Own Eventure

I was having a chat with the lovely Faylinn Erin, who creates beautiful treasures and trinkets for her brand Secret Love, and I mentioned that I was so impressed with how organized she is with all her current and upcoming event participation. She started telling me how she keeps track of everything, and then dazzled me with a screenshot of a Google doc, and it was like a light bulb went off in my head. Spreadsheets! This was so totally up my alley.

Up until the last week or so, I’ve attended very few events in Second Life. Partially because of budgetary constraints (which, let’s be honest, have at least partially flown out the window!) and also because I find them to be somewhat overwhelming. I mean that in the best possible way; it’s amazing to be in a single space where so many talented designers are represented. It’s kind of like visiting a shopping mall where the majority of stores are brands whom you absolutely love and would gladly buy out their entire stock if your wallet would abide. Also, events in Second Life happen with such frequency, keeping up with the often coinciding schedules can be dizzying!

So thanks to the extraordinarily hardworking gals at SeraphimSL.com and EloquenceSL.com, and Faylinn’s wonderful inspiration, I put together a pretty thorough spreadsheet for myself of upcoming events. Here, have a peek!

Event Spreadsheet - Happily, Ever Afterr

That’s 24 events ending just within the next 12 days. Amazing!

I fiddled around a bit with the layout, and decided that the End Date column was the most vital, so I could quickly see when an event ends, or its current round closes. I also decided to include SLURLs, since I’m noteably forgetful when it comes to snagging landmarks, and having them at the ready in the spreadsheet will make crediting event items properly much speedier as well. Organization! And c’mon, spreadsheets at least a little bit geeky, so how can I resist?

My idea is to update it a few times a week as current events close and new ones are announced. When an ongoing event, like The Black Dot Project for example, closes to prepare for the next round, I can just delete the Starts and Ends dates. When I re-sort the spreadsheet by the Ends column, that line will just drop to the bottom of the spreadsheet until new dates are filled in.

So, fashionistias and event enthusiasts: how do you keep track of all the virtual world happenings? If you have a different system, or suggestions for other websites, groups, Flickr pools, or similar that help to aggregate all the info, I’d absolutely love to find out about them. Please share in the comments! ♥

This look is dedicated to my sweet friend Holly, who lovingly claimed that I’m a fashion enabler, to which I brilliantly replied something akin to “Nuh uh, not EVEN!” and then proceeded to choose a look filled with group gifts, limited time event items, and her favorite color. So I think we can all agree that she’s totally mistaken with her assessment. Silly Holly! ;)

First things first though: I’m wildly, madly, head over buns in love with this gorgeous skin from AlterEgo and it’s available in-world as a completely free group gift! Love the soft dapple of freckles, the perfectly shaped lips, the brows, the skintone, everything. There are also two more gift skins to snag when you join, as well as some awesome L$1 lippies.

I’m also super impressed with the applier work by db Dollz. The lace inlays on the Hot Pants are so beautiful, and the stitching detail on the Basic Top is perfection. Both are exclusive to The Black Dot Project, and the mesh denim shirt can be found at the Ross Fair. Cross-event outfit assemblage! Yeah, I’m a rebel like that.

Before I scoot, I must sneak in a special swoon of love over Alaska Metro‘s gorgeous nail designs. She has lots of unique packs available in her Marketplace store, and they’re only $L25 apiece for 25 designs – effectively L$1 per nail color. Phenomenal deal! And my jewelry set is the second beautiful group gift that’s currently out at Secret Love. These were marked as June gifts, so they may not be available come July. Get your hot buns over there and pick them up!

Dress Up Dollz

There’s an absolutely lovely series of videos making the rounds called “What Second Life Means to Me”, in honor of the virtual world’s 12th birthday. Linden Lab has invited participants to share their videos, and it’s turning into a really heartwarming project thus far.

Having absolutely no machinma or video-making prowess of my own, I favor written words flavored by photos, and of late I’ve become absolutely enraptured with Second Life photography. I can easily spend hours multi-tasking my day away, working in one window and surreptitiously browsing Flickr in the other, delighted and awed by the picture shares of my fellow Second Life residents. And whilst exploring SL always remains close to my heart, and I plan to engage in much more of it soon, the allure of pixel pretties inspire something inside me that brings me right back to my youth.

Fashion dolls were a spendy prospect when I was growing up, and in her wisdom, my mom noticed that I loved the Jem cartoons and figured a Jem doll was a perfect compromise. I loved that doll tremendously: she was larger than Barbie, both in height and proportions, which mirrored my own extra-leggy stature. She also had LED flashing earrings, that remarkably never stopped twinkling even if I left them going for ~~days~~ ~~weeks~~ months at a stretch. But she also fostered my creativity, because unlike Barbie, Jem didn’t have a bevy of outfits and accessories to her name. So I had to fashion them out of scraps of material, haphazard crocheting, and a whole lot of ingenuity.

In Second Life, we have exceptionally talented designers who – literally and figuratively – fashion amazing creations for the “dress up dolls” that are our virtual selves. And while engaging in the world of Second Life fashion is by no means necessary to have a rewarding and satisfying in-world experience, it’s something I personally really enjoy, and I feel blessed and honored to be part of the blogging community who also embrace and celebrate their love of pixel fashion. And here I’d like to give a special shout-out to Cherri Banks of Elysium Cabaret, who is so exceptionally lovely and generous. You helped me tremendously with figuring out appliers for my new and beloved mesh body, and I can’t thank you enough for your kindness! <3

My look today is wonderfully easy and effortless (thanks to Cherri’s applier tutelage!) and is top-to-toe db Dollz exclusives from the Ross Fair Event, which is gracing the grid through July 6th. I can’t tell you how lush and sexy my body feels in these jeans! And I’m absolutely thrilled to have learned about appliers, as one of the reasons why I initially hesitated to try a mesh body was because I’ve always loved system layer jeans and how perfectly they tuck into boots. So when I discovered that appliers work similarly to system layers, I was over the moon. Content creators, you are absolute geniuses!

Oh! And a quick note about my shoes: they’re made for Slink flat feet, but are unrigged so they work perfectly with my Maitreya feet as well. And who doesn’t love a great pair of sneaks to kick around in? Also want to mention that my hair is courtesy of Truth‘s wonderful L$50 sale, which was recently updated to include even more hair packs. I think the count is close to 200 styles being offered in the sale room (back of the in-world store), and I’m unsure of the end date so go-go-go before you miss out on the amazing deals!
