It’s a Beautiful Day

One of the most beautiful, heartwarming, and distinctly unique things about Second Life is its residents’ desire to help those in need. It’s a profoundly moving way that the virtual world transcends its digital pixels and particles and moves into the First Life realm, with thousands upon thousands of RL dollars being donated to a number of worthy causes every year, generated from events like Relay For Life and the recently-concluded Hair Fair. But perhaps even more breathtaking is how Second Life members come together to take care of their own, as seen in the absolutely amazing number of designers who signed up for The Lexi Project, a collaborative fundraising event for Lexi Zelin, owner of AngelRed Couture.

Lexi has been diagnosed with Stage 3 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, and in this terribly trying time she is sorely in need of funds to assist in her medical bills and expenses. Lexi is just 28 years old, the mother of a beautiful little girl, and is well known in Second Life for her high quality, full permission mesh apparel. In her way, Lexi has offered a tremendous service to scores of Second Life merchants, offering them the means to open their own store and create their own brand through the use of her full-perm products.

The Lexi Project opened its doors on Sunday, July 26th with an extraordinary 350 stores participating, all of whom are showing a genuine outpouring of love, appreciation and care by providing 1 – 2 new items for purchase, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to benefit Lexi Zelin. For those who may prefer to donate directly, the event also features donation kiosks, and there is also a GoFundMe Cancer Treatment Fund page where donations are gratefully accepted in USD, as well as international currencies. And for a quick sneak peek at the kinds of offerings you’ll find at the event, the shirt I’m wearing in my look today is by More Than Ever for The Lexi Project.

Today’s post brought me back to the beautiful Trancescending, which I wrote about in June and I’ve always found to be a meditative and relaxing place to enjoy the beautiful scenery and seek a bit of serenity. I’ve paired More Than Ever‘s Beautiful Day top with sweetly charming earrings by Che Bella for the Cosmopolitan event, and the wonderfully intricate Moon Princess Rings by Secret Love for Manga Fair 2015. My beautifully detailed jeans, with their lovely lace cut-out design, are by MMC and may be found at the Ross Fair, and my sultry, fabulously flicked eyeliner is by Nova Bodyshop and is offered at the current round of N21.

It’s been an incredibly busy month, full up with a truly staggering number of events, sales, and new releases from Second Life’s designers. I’m sure many of us spent a king’s ransom this month on digital delights, but I hope there’s still room in your wallet and your heart to make a purchase or donation toward helping Lexi’s fight. Cancer has touched my family several times, as I’m sure it has many others, and any time we of the virtual world can rally to help someone overcome trials and tragedies in the real world, it’s a truly beautiful day. ♥

Finally, I think I’ve been beset by some form of witchcraft or voodoo, because the other day I noticed a really lovely set of foot jewels on Flickr, and found myself lamenting that they were for Slink feet only. And then as if by magic, Klari of KC Couture released her gorgeous Diana Jewels just a day or two later. Witchcraft, I tell you! But whether it’s clever mind-reading or just wonderful happenstance, I’m in love with these jewels which are available for both mid and high versions of Maitreya, Belleza and Slink feet. And of course there are oodles of color options in the HUD to play with, so you can create any summery color combination that your heart (or toes) desire!

Juuuuust as I finished typing, another mad scramble of work dropped on my shoulders, so I’m off to the real world to finish up my Friday. On a Beach of Weathered Sand

The real world me (or as my friend Shae delightfully puts it, my “meaty self”) used to work in the cosmetics industry, and in online forums dedicated to beauty, a lot of fun and funny acronyms exist. Being someone who loves fiercely adores alteration, one acronym in particular caught my fancy and describes me perfectly: PPP, or Pale Porcelain Princess. Alright, not so much the “princess” bit, but Pale and Porcelain? Absolutely! This means that whilst living in a part of the country that enjoys eight or so months of summer-like weather, I’m able to stand very little sun and heat before I start burning and swooning. But in Second Life? Bring on the brilliant beaches and sweet, summery sunshine!

Exciting news! I finally made it over to Hair Fair 2015, and while I went in a full-body alpha layer to help mitigate lag, it probably wasn’t even necessary as I found it to be a remarkably smooth browsing experience with little difficulty despite the heavy crowds. I was able to snag a wonderful bevy of free gifts, and was elated to see that Elikatira – the brand who has the honor of being my first ever SL hair purchase, some 8 or 9 years ago – was offering three hairstyles in her gift box. So much joy! The Kara style, with its perfect bow headband, is gorgeous and comes with the Essentials HUD which offers a wonderful variety of hair colors to choose from. Hair Fair is on through July 26th, and the crowds should thin considerably this week, so don’t miss out!

I’m wearing the wonderfully retro-inspired Summer Jumpsuit by MMC, which comes in four color combinations and offers appliers for every body under the sun, as well as system layers. If you’re ever looking for applier clothing that will suit multiple mesh bodies in your collection, MMC has all the options covered brilliantly! My necklace is by the always-wonderful Secret Love, and offers a HUD with 7 petal colors, 3 metals and 2 pearl hues. Matching earrings are included in the set, and it’s an exclusive at the new Aristo event, which ends on July 24th.

I wanted a strong red lip and perfectly flicked cat eyes for my look, and Nova Bodyshop met the challenge brilliantly! Both the Sagan Eyeliner and Lizzy Lipstick may be found at the current round of AnyBody, and I’ve listed the various appliers that these cosmetics come with to my credits above. While I still use system tattoo layers myself, I hope this information will be helpful to those with mesh heads and/or mouths!

Last but surely not least, I’m thrilled to be blogging for KC Couture, one of my very favorite shoe brands on the grid. Klari’s designs are wonderfully affordable and always offer lots of options in their HUDs, and many of her designs are compatible with Maitreya, Slink and Belleza feet. My Laura Heels are deliciously vampy, with peep toes, buckle and zipper detailing, and a wide range of color and metal options in the HUD.

In my last beach-inspired look I was all sweetness and cheer, but this time around I found the perfect setting in Black Basalt Beach, a location I discovered on Flickr that has a wonderfully rustic, weathered look to it. It’s still every bit as beautiful as the more pristine Baja Cove, but the bits of driftwood and overgrowth gives it a different feel that I really enjoy. If you’re looking for a place to enjoy your Sunday, I highly recommend a visit! ♥

Gold in the Air of Summer

I read a passage once by an author who said that following a particularly stressful time in her life, she painted the colors of her home in the warmest, cheeriest colors she could find. In that way, it was like being surrounded by happiness and love. Although I’m woefully inept at Second Life decorating, I believe that fashion can be just as uplifting. So after an exhaustively busy week, I sought two things: the serenity of ocean waves, and the warm hug of vibrant, summery colors. And because the virtual world is made of magic, in just a few clicks I’d found both!

I’m flirting with a different set-up for my posts, putting the style details immediately beneath the pictures so those who just want a quick reference for what I’m wearing can find the information easily. And for those kind souls who graciously read my stories and rambles, you’ll just have to do a wee bit of scrolling to get to them. Let me know what you think! My dress is by db Dollz and is available in five vibrant, colorful flavors at the SL Vogue event. My other wonderful event-exclusives include DS’ELLES gorgeous Yony skin at The Black Dot Project, and the positively juicy and perfectly-named Summer Zest Necklace by Secret Love at the Olala Fashion Event, which ends on Monday. I’m also wearing my favorite Besom hairstyle from this year’s Hair Fair, which is still going in full swing and still very, very packed full of shoppers! I think I’m finally going to make a go of it this weekend and try to get in; wish me luck! And if you’re there as well, don’t be surprised if I’m invisible save my nametag, as I’ll probably be using the full-body alpha trick I mentioned in my previous Hair Fair post. Gotta minimize that lag!

I also want to mention my delightfully summery, event-exclusive pose pack by Kirin, which comes with 14 beach balls (7 each in multi-color and pink varieties), and 7 unique holding poses. The set can be found at The Seasons Story, which has a gorgeous underwater build that must be seen to be believed! Much love to the wonderful Alaska Metro, who recently updated all of her nail packs to support Maitreya nails (/me jumps for joy) while still pricing them at the amazingly low L$25 apiece on the SL Marketplace. And I can’t get enough of the beautifully colorful Dragon Tattoo by Infected. It’s sometimes tricky to find tattoos that are truly sleeves-only without designs that envelope the torso or chest as well, and these are just perfect in my eyes!

Finally, the pose in my top-most pic is by Signature Pose and it’s part of the Shawna pack that features 5 poses specifically designed for kneeling glamorously in the ocean waves. Hair Fair 2015: Directory, SLURLs, and a Preview (Oh My!)

Welcome to the weekend, lovelies! If you’re anything like me, you may have stayed up all night opening Hair Fair 2015 demo boxes, and making notes of the styles that you’re interested in purchasing. You may have also been sneaking peeks on Flickr at previews from your favorite designers, or stalking blogger and photographer submissions to the official Hair Fair Photo Pool. The buzz is infectious! And I’m excited to bring you another sneak peek from YUKO Hair, who offers three fabulous styles and a completely free special color HUD for your hair wearin’ pleasure!

YUKO is a new-to-me brand that I’m delighted to have discovered, as Raine Juneberry’s mini collection mixes vintage-inspired styles with edgy cuts for a true range of possibilities. The high, blunt-cut bangs on the Yelyah style call to mind what a cool, fashion-forward fashionista might wear, while Kandy comes with two bangs options: blunt and delightfully pointed, which gives the hair an extra vixen-vibe. My favorite is Wavy, which is a perfectly draped siren style that reminds me of my RL hair, but kicked up an extra notch into glam territory. There are 7 unique color HUDs (with and without roots options) to choose from, and as a free gift YUKO offers Kandy with a special hair flower and the Rainbow I HUD, which includes this fabulous teal shade that I just adore.

The Hair Fair 2015 guide and directory is provided below, and the event coordinators have recommended that visitors follow the path, keeping the stores on your left side, to ensure that you visit every designer’s booth without missing any. They have also graciously opened two additional sims for the first few days, which people can teleport to and use as a gateway into the Hair Fair sims, or simply “camera shop” if the sims are too full.
